Alright, next blog. Sorry I am a busy, busy college student. HAHA more like lazy.
MONDAY
We meet our new jazz teacher. Now this man is not the kind for simple greetings. He greets us by throwing rules at us and popping us into a warm-up. He is the no mercy guy. Now our VPS teacher is stern and funny, he is just stern.
Musical theatre history is just as packed with notes as usual but he gives us the amazing option of bringing out laptops to the next class. Guess who is bringing their laptop. Oh, and…WE HAD A QUIZ!!!! AHHHHHH it sucked. No one had any idea what the hell the answers were AHAHAHA. I was pretty sure that I had failed this one but we got the scores back and I got a 75%, still not okay with me. So I will definantly be studying for the next one.
ACTING!!! We continued work on “Speak the Speech.” We had some word work and stuff. We all love Barbra MUCHO and her show on Sunday was amazing. We can’t wait for our new scenes.
TUESDAY
WARM-UP!!! So I went to Hector’s bare workout and LOVED IT. The stretching was amazing and it really does get you prepared for the rest of the day.
We had our next PED class and the teacher is still fine. She isn’t crazy yet, even when we were all dumb and couldn’t do the dance haha. She is going to be fine, well at least for a couple more weeks.
Acting. We are now one day away from performances and still working on the alphabet warm-up and the monologue from Hamlet. I am kind-of done with the monologue haha. I really just can’t wait for the next project. Gosh I am so ADD.
Musical Theatre Performance. We are still getting through people, watching and learning goes hand in hand. We continue to watch for habits we need to break. I went this day. They didn’t like the way I did my song. Kaufman liked the way I acted it but Jerome said it was too pretty. I need to stop singing pretty for this song. Wow this is going to be hard for me.
VPS is always fun to go to. None of us know what to expect from this lady. We all like her and laugh with her but deep down we all kinda scared of her. She really fun to be around though and we are learning the most amazing stretches and alignment positions.
WEDNESDAY
I was a little scared to go to the warm-up because it was Marina’s body conditioning, but she wasn’t there. Chrissy did the warm-up and it was great. It consisted of stretching and other a little bit of pushups and stuff. She tried to make us do the splits AHAHAHAHA she’s joking right?...no it was great though.
HELLO EVERYONE TODAY IN ACTING IS PERFORMANCES!!! So we all did our performances with character and tried to do it word for word. Well, I went. She told me that I had the monologue down but I didn’t take any risks with my character. Yeah, she is totally right. I have to start trying harder.
FIRST VOICE LESSON OF THE SEMESTER!!! I fricken LOVE Erika. She is such an amazing teacher, and awesome person in general. She has the most amazing ability to have me understand everything that comes out of her mouth. It’s weird, like her brain is wired to mine somehow. She is so nice to me though. I swear I go to my lesson just so she can sit there and compliment me. I love having her for a teacher. She gives me the greatest advice too. I know she is going to change the path of my life. Crazy, I know.
VPS, alright Anne. She really made us do crunches. Yeah, so we worked out in VPS too. Crunches that we held for two minutes each. Let me tell you though, they were the most amazing crunches ever. The good burn. WOOP WOOP!!!
THURSDAY
Workout time!!! Simeon was not there to do his bare work so Tracy was there. We did a lot of floor work and no bare, but it was still amazing. Yup, walked out of that workout pumped. Loved it.
Greco Roman Theatre is still the longest class in the history of classes. Three hours of knowledge pumped into our brains. We started reading Agamemnon. He made most of us be the chorus. Wow, yeah you need to rehearse that before you attempt to do it. Poor Alison was having a crapy ADHD moment because he didn’t give us a break until 2 ½ hours into the class.
Musical Theatre Performance. Alright, I can’t wait until we get our new songs. I am so done working on this song. I have been working on it for 5 weeks now and I want more. I get sick of songs really easily apparently. I’m going to have to fix that.
*We got our scenes for acting. They are supposed to be ensemble scenes and I am in a duo scene. That either means she thinks I can hold my own in a scene with a big part, or she couldn’t cast me in anything and I was one of the two that was left over. Gosh, I don’t know.
FRIDAY
MARINA’S WORKOUT KICKED MY ASS!!! BUT IT WAS AWESOME!!! I loved Marina’s workout even though it was hard. I felt like an idiot though. I hurt my shoulder a long time ago and it has gotten worse. I couldn’t do half of the workout because I couldn’t do the pushups because I couldn’t put my weight on the shoulder. EXCUSES!!! Damn I need to stop that too.
*Yeah I took a nap after that warm-up*
In Musical Theatre Performance we got through everyone in our class and looped around for another round of working. I did not go on this day but I might go next Tuesday.
WEEKEND!!!
SATURDAY
Okay, for a Saturday I woke up early and went to the store. I went to Ross and bought new shoes and Ralphs to buy food. My mom is going to shoot me in the face. I spent $200. WHOA!!! I need to stop doing that crap. I bought the cutest shoes though. I love them. Then I came back and cleaned the apartment. Nothing much happened after that. Chris came over and we were super lazy with our laptops and the Zach came over with his too. We moved over to Zach’s room to get better internet and Miguel and Christa and Bri came over. We ditched the laptop randomness, kinda, and they put on Scream 2. Me and Bri chatted up an amazing storm about musicals and though the guys got mad at us for talking we didn’t care.
SUNDAY
WHAT AN AWESOME DAY!!! I woke up early again and made muffins. Then I went to a breakfast party in Alison’s dorm. That was awesome. Then we all went and walked to Laura Flanagan and Barbra Schofield’s show. Yeah, I went again. With no surprise it was awesome, AGAIN. Lucy, Chris, and I bought matching sunglasses and now we look awesome when we walk together haha. Then we walked back and went to Taco Bell for dinner. On the way back to the dorm we stopped at Amoeba Music and I bought some opera CD’s. Then we went back and Chris and I read the homework assignment and then it was bed time. This was a packed day and I loved it. It so needs to happen again, really soon. Lucy and I are supposed to go to the opera sometime that we will make a day out of haha.

WORKOUT TIME!!!
Alright. So it is to everyones knowledge that this work is very much based on the way a person looks, especially in the theatrical businesses. Let me tell you, I know that I am not in shape and I do not look many many parts. My friends, that is all about to change. I have decided that this is the time to take control of my body and change, for the better. My school now requires that all the BFA Musical Theatre students take two morning warm-ups a week. I have decided that this is the perfect opportunity to go to all of the warm-ups each week (that isworking out 5 times a week). I know I need to start eating better as well so I will be trying my hardest, and it's going to be hard for me, to eat healthier. The time is now to finally change my image and feel better about myself. This has to be for me, yes it will help me in my career but I have to do this for myself, and it's going to be great. How many of my insecurities will be aided if I were to loose weight and get in better shape? With support from my friends I am going to make this happen. I can't wait.

WEEK 1
Alright, so clearly I am a horrible blogger. I told you I would keep you posted on my college career, and here it is the first day of the SECOND week and I haven't told you anything. Here it goes...
Monday:
We had our dance placement and though I expected to get into 2.1 (begging) jazz, I was placed into 2.2 (intermediate). I'm sure that wont last long since I CAN'T DANCE!!!
We went to our first Musical Theatre History class. The teacher is really cool but he talks way too fast when we have to take a million notes, but I forgive him haha. We also signed up for a composer for the first paper--Leonard Bernstein!!!
Went to our acting class and learned a new warm-up. Fun tongue and face action AHAHAHA. I wasn't sure how I felt about her the first class, but hey, it's the first class. We are also working on a speech from Hamlet, that we will be working on until this Wednesday.
Tuesday:
Started the day off with our new PED class (professional ethics and dance). I was told that this teacher is a bit of a nut, but for the first class she was pretty okay. She hasn't gotten crazy yet but, there is still time.
We head to acting where we continue with the alphabet warm-up. We go through it with the class and then we all do it as a group but one person follows another. We like to see who will last the longest.
Our first musical theatre class consists of all paperwork. We find the the teacher knows all about us from our demos last semester. We still don't know much beyond the papers at this point.
OUR FIRST VPS CLASS!!! I, of course, was late to this class. IT WASN'T MY FAULT!!! We went to go down the stairs and a huge bookcase was on it's way down so we had to wait for the elevator. Anyway, the teacher is a little bit crazy. My thoughts changed but first class I really thought she would eat me if I gave her the wrong answer.
Wednesday:
Wake up! It's acting time!!!..We have a fun exercise where we are all middle school kids but we have to "Speak the speech." Girls against boys. Do I have to tell you who won?
Next VPS class is way fun. I discover that there is no right answer with this woman, but I also find out that she knows the greatest tension relieving stretches in the whole world. She has such a fun humor about her though, so I'm thinking that she is cool...thus far.
Thursday:
Greco Roman Theatre. Here we learn about the old time theatre of Greece and Rome. THIS IS THE LONGEST CLASS EVER!!! Very interesting concepts that I don't quite understand, but I want to. IT IS THREE HOURS LONG!!! Really, I can hardly pay attention long enough to watch a movie, never mind take notes and retain information. This teacher is nice though and thinks everyones impute is important, which is definitely a good trait.
Musical theatre starts with people working on their songs. See I didn't have to go because my last name starts with a P. We find that it is hard to break the habits of contemporary musicals. We also learn that our teacher is responsible for our acting work and our accompanist for the class is given all the musical responsibility.
Friday:
I only had musical theatre so I got to sleep in YAY!!! We pretty much just did the same thing. I didn't get to go this day either.
WEEKEND!!!
Saturday:
Me and my friend went shopping. We looked around at Goodwill and other places for clothes that would be suitable for acting class. We then went and ate and met another friend and got ice cream. Then we went back and played board games and ordered pizza, because my friends job is to sit in the cafe for 5 hours, so we thought we would keep him company.
Sunday:
BEST THING EVER!!! We went and saw a show with the amazing Laura Flanagan (my 1st semester acting teacher) and the lovely Barbra Schofield (my current acting teacher). IT WAS SOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!! I loved every second of it. I am so lucky to have such amazing teachers. Both of these women were so awesome on stage. Beautiful performances from both of them. I think I am going to take all of the people who couldn't go this date and go next Sunday again.
We then came back and again hung out...and freaked out about how we didn't do ANY of the homework that we were supposed to.

Welcome to me
Hi, I'm Kayla
This is my first post on this blog. I decided that I would use this blog as a sort of digital diary, kind of. I thought it would be cool to chart my second semester here at AMDA and see how I feel from day to day. This will include my classes, how I feel about my teachers, how my morning workouts are killing me, and I might throw in some social stuff and cool things about my dreams (the actual sleep kind). Well I hope what I write will be entertaining for you to read, and if it isn't, I will have fun reading it back to myself haha. Well, see ya. I'll write soon.
